New Delhi, Aug 30 (NationPress) Indian off-spinner Jayant Yadav has transitioned to Puducherry for the forthcoming 2025/26 domestic season after receiving a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from his home state of Haryana.
The management of the Haryana team has opted for spin allrounders Nishant Sindhu and Rahul Tewatia over him. Jayant has been part of the Haryana squad since he made his first-class debut during the 2011-12 season.
His most recent match for Haryana was in the 2024/25 Ranji Trophy, where he captured 28 wickets across eight games. In the quarter-final against Mumbai in February, which Haryana lost by 152 runs, Jayant secured three wickets and scored 40 runs over two innings.
Over a career exceeding ten years, Jayant has amassed 265 wickets in 90 first-class matches and accumulated 2924 runs, including three centuries and 14 fifties. His highest first-class score, 211, was achieved against Karnataka in the 2012/13 season, where he formed a record 392-run eighth-wicket partnership with leg-spinner Amit Mishra.
At Puducherry, Jayant will join two other professionals, Puneet Datey from Madhya Pradesh and Siddhant Adhatrao from Mumbai. Reports indicate that Jayant has been signed as a last-minute substitute by Puducherry for Armaan Jaffer, the nephew of former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer.
Jayant's last appearance for India in Test cricket was against Sri Lanka in Mohali in February 2022. He has participated in six Tests (with a tally of 16 wickets and 248 runs) and two ODIs since 2016.
In the IPL, where he has taken eight wickets in 20 matches, Jayant has been part of the Gujarat Titans after previous stints with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and Mumbai Indians. He has also played in the county championship for Warwickshire and Middlesex.
