Ahmedabad, Aug 30 (NationPress) Adani Power Ltd announced on Saturday that it has obtained a letter of award (LoA) from MP Power Management Company Ltd. (MPPMCL) to supply power from a new 800 MW Ultra-supercritical thermal power plant, set to be constructed in Anuppur district. This initiative is expected to assist Madhya Pradesh in addressing its escalating electricity demands driven by rapid industrial growth and urbanization.

The investment for establishing the plant and its associated infrastructure will amount to Rs 10,500 crore.

“As India’s power needs continue to surge, especially for base load power due to swift economic expansion, it is crucial to invest in robust energy infrastructure to meet the nation’s increasing demands. Adani Power is dedicated to securing a sustainable energy future for India by enhancing capacity and adopting cutting-edge technologies,” stated SB Khyalia, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Power.

“The Anuppur facility will be essential in providing reliable, economical, and competitively priced power for both households and businesses, thereby fortifying India’s and Madhya Pradesh’s energy security and promoting ongoing development in the state,” he added.

In a competitive bidding process, Adani Power emerged as one of the lowest bidders, finalizing a tariff of Rs 5.838 per KWh. As part of this contract, the company will supply power from the newly established 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power unit, designed under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model within the state.

The unit is projected to be operational within 54 months from the appointed date.

Coal linkage for the plant has been allocated under the SHAKTI Policy of the Central Government to Madhya Pradesh.

During the construction phase, the project is anticipated to create 6,000-7,000 direct and indirect jobs, and employ 1,000 personnel once operational, as per company statements.

This marks the fourth significant power supply contract received by Adani Power in the past year. In September 2024, it secured a LoI for a combined 6,600 MW (5,000 MW solar and 1,600 MW thermal) power supply contract from Maharashtra.

In May 2025, a LoA was granted by the Uttar Pradesh government for supplying 1,600 MW from a greenfield plant in the state. In August, the company also received a LoA from the Bihar government for 2,400 MW of power from a new plant to be constructed in the state.

Point of View

This significant investment by Adani Power illustrates a proactive approach to meet the growing energy needs of India. The project not only aims to enhance energy security in Madhya Pradesh but also creates job opportunities, reflecting a commitment to sustainable development. It is essential to recognize the balance between industrial growth and environmental responsibilities as India progresses.
