Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad, March 15 (NationPress) Adani Power Ltd (APL), recognized as India's premier private power producer, declared on Sunday that it has been awarded a Letter of Award from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) for a substantial supply of 1,600 MW from one of its forthcoming ultra-supercritical thermal power facilities.
In a fiercely competitive bidding scenario, Adani Power secured the position of the lowest-tariff bidder, proposing a rate of Rs 5.30/kWh. The power supply, under a proposed 25-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA), is anticipated to begin in the financial year 2030-31.
This milestone signifies another successful PSA acquisition for APL amidst a revitalized investment wave in the thermal power arena. Adani Power continues to solidify its role as a major contributor to new generation capacity, aligning with the national ambition of incorporating 100 GW of thermal power capacity by 2032. By the fiscal year 2025-26, APL has clinched five long-term PSA bids totaling 10,400 MW, as indicated by a company announcement.
“As India's power requirements steadily increase, adding reliable capacity is essential for energy security,” emphasized Adani Power Ltd CEO S.B. Khyalia. “This award from MSEDCL demonstrates the competitiveness of our cost structure, our capability to provide reliable baseload electricity, and our commitment to meeting India's expanding energy demands through enduring partnerships. We aim to assist Maharashtra and the nation with affordable and dependable power supply as India's foremost private energy producer.”
With this latest development, Adani Power has successfully secured long-term PSAs for 13.3 GW out of its 23.8 GW pipeline under construction, marking a crucial advancement toward its goal of contracting nearly all its capacity. Currently, over 95% of Adani Power’s operational capacity of 18.15 GW is committed under medium-to-long-term PSAs, while more than 55% of its future capacity of 23.8 GW is locked in under 25-year PSAs, ensuring robust visibility and stability in both volume and revenue.
The MSEDCL tender includes a pre-established coal linkage, which secures long-term fuel availability and promotes a consistent and economical power supply.
Adani Power is executing the largest private sector thermal power capital expenditure program in India, aiming to elevate its capacity from 18.15 GW to 41.87 GW by FY31-32, involving investments close to Rs 2 lakh crore. These undertakings are in harmony with India's rapidly escalating electricity needs, propelled by economic growth, urbanization, industrial advancement, and increasing household electrification. During the construction phase, these projects are expected to create job opportunities for numerous individuals and boost industrial demand across various sectors, as outlined in the company statement.
