Ahmedabad, Sep 11 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking move for thermal power tenders in India, Adani Power Ltd (APL) announced on Thursday that it has received a total capacity award of 1,600 MW from MP Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) through a recently finalized tender process.
The leading private sector thermal power producer in India has secured a Letter of Award (LoA) from MPPMCL, which includes an additional 800 MW under the 'Greenshoe Option.'
Both units (800MW X 2), located in Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh, are slated for commissioning within 60 months from the appointed date. The investment for this project is projected at around Rs 21,000 crore, covering the plant and associated infrastructure.
This initiative is expected to create approximately 9,000 to 10,000 jobs during construction and around 2,000 jobs once the plant becomes operational.
According to the company, this development follows APL’s earlier achievement of securing an initial 800 MW capacity in the same bidding process.
This marks the fifth significant power supply contract awarded to Adani Power in the past year, bringing the total awarded capacity to 7,200 MW.
“We are thrilled that Adani Power has not only secured the initial 800 MW project in Madhya Pradesh but has also been awarded an additional 800 MW through the greenshoe option,” expressed S.B. Khyalia, the Chief Executive Officer of Adani Power.
“This reinforces our commitment to providing reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy to the state and its residents. The project solidifies our long-standing partnership with Madhya Pradesh and underscores our dedication to enhancing India’s energy security and economic progress,” he added.
The extra 800 MW capacity will be provided at the same tariff of Rs. 5.838/kWh applicable to the initially awarded 800 MW capacity.
Consequently, APL will supply power from a new 1600 MW (800MW X 2) Ultra-supercritical thermal power unit, established under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model.
The company anticipates finalizing the Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with the state Discom in the near future.
Adani Power is currently in the process of implementing 23.72 GW of capacity additions, aiming to elevate its total generation capacity to 41.87 GW by 2031-32.
