Ahmedabad, Aug 7 (NationPress) Adani Power announced on Thursday that it has secured a Letter of Intent (LoI) to establish and manage a 2,400 MW greenfield thermal power plant in Bihar, with a total investment of $3 billion.
The leading private thermal power generator in India won the bid from the Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) to deliver 2,274 MW of electricity to the North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (NBPDCL) and the South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (SBPDCL) from a 2,400 MW thermal power project, which is set to be developed in Pirpainti within the Bhagalpur District of Bihar.
Adani Power emerged as the most competitive bidder in a highly contested tender process, finalizing a supply price of Rs 6.075 per KWh.
Under the contract, the company will provide power from a new 3x800 MW Ultra-supercritical power plant, designed and constructed under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model.
The first unit is expected to be operational within 48 months from the appointed date, while the last unit will follow within 60 months.
“We are thrilled to have secured the bid for developing and managing a 2,400 MW thermal power project in Bihar. This new greenfield plant, backed by a $3 billion investment, aims to significantly contribute to the state’s industrial development,” stated S.B. Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power.
“Our facility will be an advanced, low-emission Ultra-supercritical plant, providing reliable, competitively priced, and high-quality electricity to the region,” he added.
This project is projected to create 10,000–12,000 jobs directly and indirectly during construction, and around 3,000 jobs once operational.
The plant will be fueled by coal sourced from the designated coal linkage under the SHAKTI Policy of the Central government.
The company anticipates receiving the LoA (Letter of Award) shortly, with the subsequent execution of the Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with the State Utilities.
