PM Modi meets BJP's new 65-member national team at party HQ
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, 22 August met the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s newly appointed national office-bearers at the party's headquarters in New Delhi, calling organisational meetings a platform for “new ideas and perspectives” that strengthen the party and deepen its connect with citizens. The interaction marked Modi's first face-to-face engagement with the reconstituted team since its formal announcement earlier in the week.
The New Organisational Team
The newly constituted 65-member national team includes 51 new faces, with leaders drawn from across states and assigned key organisational responsibilities. BJP President Nitin Nabin personally welcomed the Prime Minister at the headquarters, and the two posed for a group photograph with the full complement of office-bearers. Modi shared images of the meeting on social media platform X, writing: “Organisational meetings are all about new ideas and perspectives aimed at strengthening the Party and deepening connect with the people. Great interaction with fellow Party colleagues and the new organisational team!”
Youth Outreach at the Centre of Agenda
Earlier on the same day, Nabin convened a separate session with the new office-bearers, emphasising the importance of ‘Yuva Samvad’ — a sustained dialogue with young people. The BJP is rolling out outreach programmes targeting citizens aged 14 years and above, with dedicated teams being assembled from senior state-level leaders. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) has been tasked with helping constitute these teams and coordinating their mobilisation. Former national office-bearers are also expected to be assigned roles in the campaign.
Election Readiness Under Review
Organisational preparations for forthcoming Assembly elections featured prominently in discussions, with emphasis on strengthening grassroots networks and improving on-ground readiness. Nabin is scheduled to chair a follow-up review meeting at the BJP headquarters extension on Sunday, bringing together State BJP Presidents, organisational general secretaries, and state in-charges. That meeting is expected to review poll preparations for Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab, alongside broader party programmes.
Vande Mataram Resolution
Modi's meeting with the new team came shortly after the BJP passed a resolution on Saturday defending the historical legacy and honour of Vande Mataram. The resolution criticised the Congress Working Committee's adherence to its 1937 resolution restricting the singing of the National Song to its first two stanzas at party events. The BJP stated it would resist any attempt to subordinate Vande Mataram to “communal pressure, political appeasement, or narrow vote-bank considerations,” and announced a nationwide awareness campaign on the song's history and significance.
With election-season organisational reviews already under way, the BJP's restructured national team now faces the immediate test of translating internal momentum into ground-level preparedness across key poll-bound states.
