Jammu, Jan 15 (NationPress) Following discussions with senior leaders from J&K Police, CRPF, and BSF, the Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan will preside over a collaborative meeting involving all security and intelligence organizations here on Thursday.
According to officials, after gathering insights from each agency regarding the local security dynamics, the Union Home Secretary will conduct a comprehensive review with the J&K Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), as well as Central and Union Territory intelligence entities.
On Wednesday, the Union Home Secretary also held a distinct meeting with top military officials.
“The primary aim of today’s review is to assess ongoing anti-terror operations, counter-intelligence efforts, and the identification of terror over-ground workers (OGWs) who serve as the eyes and ears for terrorists. The Union Home Secretary is keen to gather insights from all security agencies involved in anti-terrorism and anti-infiltration initiatives in J&K, which is why separate meetings with CRPF, BSF, and JKP leadership were conducted to review ongoing operations in detail, especially in mountainous regions,” officials stated.
The Army is actively engaged in counter-infiltration operations along the Line of Control (LoC) in areas such as Poonch, Rajouri, and parts of Jammu district, as well as Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara districts in the Valley.
The BSF is stationed along the International Border (IB) with Pakistan in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts.
Operations against terrorists in the hinterland, including hilly regions like Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua, Udhampur, and others, are conducted by the Army, CRPF, and J&K Police.
Officials suggested that a joint strategy may emerge from the meeting to intensify operations aimed at eradicating terrorists in the hinterland while ensuring no infiltration occurs at the LoC and IB.
Central and UT intelligence agencies believe dismantling the OGW network is crucial for eliminating terrorists, as they cannot sustain themselves without essential supplies and support.
Recently, there has been an increase in drone activity along the IB and LoC, which will also be a focal point in the joint security review.
The Union Home Secretary’s visit to J&K follows less than a week after Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the security landscape in J&K during a high-level meeting in New Delhi on January 8.
This joint meeting is anticipated to ensure the implementation of directives given by the Union Home Minister to elevate counter-terror operations targeting terrorist infrastructure and funding, executed in a mission-oriented manner.
