Hyderabad, Nov 2 (NationPress) - On Sunday, Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, issued a challenge to the Congress-led government in Telangana to abolish the fine rice scheme.
This statement came in response to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s alarming warning to the residents of the Jubilee Hills constituency. He claimed that if they chose a candidate from any party other than Congress in the upcoming by-election, the government would terminate welfare initiatives, including the distribution of free fine rice to underprivileged families via fair price shops.
During a press briefing, Kishan Reddy insisted that the Congress government clarify who is behind the implementation of the fine rice scheme. He asserted that it is not a scheme initiated by the state government and accused the Chief Minister of misleading the populace.
The BJP leader emphasized that the Central government is overseeing the rice initiative nationwide. He highlighted that the Central government allocates Rs 42 for each kilogram of rice under this scheme, while the state only contributes Rs 15, falsely claiming it as its own.
As he campaigns actively for the upcoming by-election set for November 11, Kishan Reddy disclosed that the BJP has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission concerning the Chief Minister's threats regarding the fine rice scheme.
He pointed out that threatening to withhold welfare benefits for not supporting a specific party constitutes a breach of the Model Code of Conduct.
Kishan Reddy accused the Congress party of gaining power in Telangana through deception and claimed that the government has rendered the state financially unstable in both education and health sectors.
He rebuffed the Chief Minister's claims that he is attempting to obstruct the expansion of the Hyderabad Metro.
Additionally, he charged that the Congress party is criticizing the BJP to secure votes from the MIM in the constituency.
The BJP is conducting 50 Maha Padyatras in Jubilee Hills as part of its campaign for the by-election, with party leaders and volunteers visiting homes to inform residents about the Congress and BRS's failures and sharing how the BJP plans to foster development if its candidate is elected.
Jubilee Hills forms part of the Assembly segments under the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency, which is represented by Kishan Reddy.
