UP Police Detains Protesting Farmers in Greater Noida, Transports Them to Police Lines

Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 6 (NationPress) Farmers organized by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha once more sought to convene at Zero Point to assert their demands. The Bharatiya Kisan Parishad issued a call for the panchayat. The enraged farmers insisted on the liberation of their detained peers, cautioning authorities to either set them free or detain additional farmers.
Police halted the farmers near Pari Chowk in Beta-2, Greater Noida, forcibly transporting them to the Police Lines in buses. In light of the rising tensions, a substantial police presence has been established at Mahamaya Flyover and Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida.
After a Mahapanchayat on Wednesday, police released 123 farmers from custody. However, following a statement from the Chief Minister later that evening, arrests resumed.
More than 100 farmers, including women, have been detained from various sites. Although the official count of those arrested remains unverified, farmers associated with the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad arrived at Zero Point on Friday as directed by the Parishad.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) accused certain individuals and organizations of inciting disorder within the ongoing movement, obstructing productive discussions with the government.
Pawan Khatana, the BKU State President for Western Uttar Pradesh, addressed the issue on Facebook, clarifying that the movement is progressing positively and that government officials are open to dialogue. However, he criticized some groups for misleading protesters and disrupting harmony.
Khatana affirmed that the BKU has consistently supported peaceful protests. While recognizing the disruption caused to the public, he mentioned that disinformation from opposition parties and other factions is hindering advancement.
The farmers' movement, initiated on November 26, involves several organizations protesting under the Samyukta Kisan Morcha. Although negotiations had shown some promise, tensions escalated due to the sit-in at Dalit Prerna Sthal.
At the Mahapanchayat, Sukhbir Khalifa of the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad called for renewed protests at the Dalit Prerna Sthal. This incited police action, resulting in Khalifa and 34 others being arrested on Wednesday night and returned to jail.
The farmers are advocating for increased compensation for their acquired land, residential plots for their families, and improved welfare measures. After three days of protests, farmers marched towards Delhi on December 2 but were halted by police before reaching the border.
The situation remains tense as farmers persist in their pursuit of justice and negotiations have yet to yield a conclusive outcome.
