The Uttar Pradesh Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) recruitment examination for 3,539 teaching posts began on Wednesday, 3 June, with more than 8.6 lakh aspirants writing the test across 36 districts of the state under tight security. The two-day offline exam, conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), concludes on 4 June.

Exam schedule and format

The test is being held in two shifts on both days. The morning session runs from 9:30 am to 11:30 am IST, while the afternoon session is scheduled from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm IST.

On Day 1, candidates are appearing in Social Science, Physical Education, Science, Urdu, Hindi, Mathematics, Agriculture and Music (Vocal). The remaining subjects — English, Home Science, Biology, Music (Instrumental), Sanskrit, Commerce and Art — will be tested on Thursday.

Security and anti-cheating measures

Authorities have rolled out elaborate surveillance and monitoring mechanisms to safeguard the integrity of the recruitment. Electronic devices including mobile phones, Bluetooth gadgets, smart wearables and digital watches have been barred from centres, and candidates have been told to strictly follow the instructions printed on their admit cards.

Large contingents of security personnel, administrative officers and examination staff have been deployed across centres, with enhanced checks designed to deter cheating and impersonation.

Voices from the ground

An invigilator at a centre in Prayagraj said in reports, 'This examination will be conducted over two days, on June 3 and June 4. Everyone is fully alert, and the administration is strictly following all government guidelines.'

Candidates appearing for the paper also said the arrangements were satisfactory. One aspirant said, 'The arrangements are quite good, as a significant number of administrative officials and personnel have been deployed.' Another candidate added, 'I am hopeful that I will clear the examination. The arrangements are good. Tight security is in place to avoid any misdeeds.'

Why this exam matters

The TGT recruitment is one of Uttar Pradesh's largest teacher hiring drives in recent years, with nearly 244 candidates competing for each post. The exam comes against the backdrop of repeated demands from aspirants for faster, leak-free recruitment after past paper-leak controversies in state-level tests forced cancellations and re-examinations.

What happens next

UPESSC is expected to release answer keys and the objection window shortly after the Thursday session concludes, followed by results and document verification in subsequent stages. Successful candidates will be inducted into government-aided secondary schools across Uttar Pradesh.
