Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, distributed appointment letters to 3,567 teachers and principals selected through the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) for posts in secondary schools across the state. The ceremony was held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow.

The appointments span four categories: principals, headmasters, lecturers (PGT), and assistant teachers (TGT). Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated the new recruits and their families at the event, describing the occasion as a milestone for Uttar Pradesh's secondary education system.

'I wholeheartedly congratulate all of you on becoming a part of the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Department. I also congratulate your teachers, parents and all your family members on this occasion,' he said.

What Yogi Said About Teachers' Role

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister underscored the far-reaching impact each teacher could have. 'If each teacher among you interacts with 100 students every year, then 3,567 teachers means you will interact with more than 3.5 lakh children in a year. Your guidance and mentorship will lay the foundation for a new India,' he said.

Yogi Adityanath also invoked India's ancient educational heritage, citing institutions such as Takshashila and Nalanda as evidence of the country's historical standing as a 'Vishwaguru'. He argued that while the government could build laboratories and establish industries, the quality of innovation and employment generation would ultimately depend on the students these teachers train.

Exam Reform and Anti-Cheating Drive

The Chief Minister referred to ongoing reforms in the state's recruitment examination system, noting that Prashant Kumar had been appointed Chairman of the relevant commission with a specific mandate to dismantle what he described as the 'cheating mafia'. He said Kumar's appointment was based on his track record in the Uttar Pradesh Police and was aimed at ensuring that deserving candidates were not robbed of opportunities by malpractice.

Yogi Adityanath also stressed the importance of specialised pedagogical training for new teachers, noting that professional competence in other fields — whether administration or law enforcement — does not automatically translate into effective teaching.

Government's Hiring Record and Political Jab

The Chief Minister pointed to his government's broader employment record, stating that more than 5,297 youths had received appointment letters from him during the previous week alone. Over the last nine years, his government has reportedly distributed appointment letters to 9.5 lakh people, he said.

Taking a pointed jibe at the opposition, Yogi Adityanath referenced what he called the 'Saifai Syndicate' and challenged critics to tally the appointments his government had made — adding, in an apparent dig, that they could seek arithmetic help from Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Yadav if needed.

With recruitment drives continuing, attention will now turn to whether the newly appointed teachers are deployed to underserved districts where secondary school staffing gaps remain acute.
