Farrukhabad, Oct 19 (NationPress) The Dhanteras festival, which heralds the onset of the Diwali celebrations, transformed local markets into lively hubs as eager shoppers flocked to jewelry stores, auto dealerships, and other retail outlets to buy gold, vehicles, and cookware.
This year, Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh recorded unprecedented sales in the two-wheeler market, with customers taking advantage of exciting discounts at auto showrooms.
Local merchants reported that the district achieved a remarkable turnover of approximately Rs 10 crore. From dawn until late at night on Dhanteras, shoppers crowded the markets, purchasing jewelry and utensils to enhance the festive spirit.
The recent reduction in GST rates led to lower prices, further delighting customers as they secured attractive deals on a variety of products including gold, silver, cookware, and vehicles.
Shoppers bought everything from everyday utensils to elegant dinner sets, as well as gift packs for family and friends.
Sadhna, a shopper at Chowk Bazaar, noted that while the crowds slowed her journey to the market, she successfully bought steel utensils. Another shopper mentioned that despite the bustling atmosphere, she still managed to purchase a dinner set, although it took longer than expected.
The local vehicle market experienced heightened activity on Dhanteras, with auto showrooms filled with customers from early morning. Estimates suggest around 100 four-wheelers and about 1,000 bikes and scooters were sold throughout the district, with Hero bikes being the top seller, totaling over 400.
Additionally, approximately 300 TVS bikes were sold, while brands like Bajaj also enjoyed strong sales.
The GST adjustments resulted in price reductions of Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 for bikes, attracting more buyers.
In the bullion market, there was a noticeable demand for old silver coins and light gold jewelry, while the electronics sector saw a surge in LED sales.
Bullion traders Anupam Rastogi and Shivang Rastogi remarked on the vibrant atmosphere created by the influx of customers.
This year's Dhanteras significantly boosted local commerce, and merchants anticipate ongoing vibrancy as the Diwali festival approaches.
