New Delhi, Oct 11 (NationPress) Sergio Gor, the newly appointed US Ambassador to India, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri engaged in a "productive exchange" regarding the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership during their meeting in New Delhi on Saturday, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, shared on X, "They had a productive exchange on the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and its shared priorities. FS wished Amb-designate Gor all success for his assignment."
Prior to this, Gor met with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar, where they deliberated on the significance of the India-US relationship.
Gor's four-day visit to India commenced on October 9.
Following their discussions, EAM Jaishankar posted on X, "Pleased to meet Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor of the US today in New Delhi. Discussed the India-US relationship and its global significance. Wish him the best for his new responsibility."
Accompanying Gor is Michael J Rigas, the US Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources. A representative from the US Embassy in New Delhi clarified that Gor's current visit is not linked to his formal induction into office.
"This is a short trip. His presentation of credentials will occur at a later date, which has not yet been determined," the spokesperson added.
During their stay, Ambassador Gor and Deputy Secretary Rigas are anticipated to engage in discussions with Indian officials on various bilateral matters, including the India-US strategic partnership and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
Before arriving in India, Gor met with Indian Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, during the Diwali celebrations at India House in Washington.
Gor was officially nominated as the US Ambassador to India on August 22 and received confirmation from the US Senate on October 7.
His visit takes place at a time when India-US relations are facing challenges, including rising H1B visa costs and uncertainties surrounding tariff policies from the Trump administration.
At 38, Gor is the youngest US Ambassador to India and is recognized as a close advisor to Trump, previously serving as the Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, responsible for vetting over 4,000 positions in the new administration.
Gor is also set to act as a special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs.
