Washington, April 11 (NationPress) The United States and India have reinforced their strategic defense alliance during crucial discussions between the leaders of their air forces, centering on interoperability, training, and regional deterrence in the Indo-Pacific, as stated in a media release.
On April 8, US Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Kenneth Wilsbach welcomed Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh for an official counterpart visit.
Singh was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and subsequently engaged in discussions with Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink and Wilsbach at the Pentagon, as per the official statement.
During the meetings, senior US Air Force officials underscored the significance of Washington's defense partnership with India, characterizing it as vital for assuring a “free, open, peaceful, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.”
Wilsbach commended India’s leadership and involvement in multilateral exercises alongside like-minded nations, emphasizing that broadening such cooperation would be essential for boosting regional deterrence.
“It was a privilege to host Air Chief Marshal AP Singh for this pivotal counterpart visit,” Wilsbach stated. “Throughout his day at the Pentagon, we engaged in fruitful discussions about modernization initiatives, future training opportunities, and our shared dedication to a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.”
The discussions also touched upon India’s acquisition of MQ-9B Sky Guardian aircraft, with the US Air Force reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that the Indian Armed Forces can “seamlessly and effectively employ the platform upon delivery.”
Wilsbach further highlighted the US Air Force’s readiness to assist Indian Air Force modernization efforts, pointing out the mutual advantages of deeper defense industrial collaboration.
The meetings at the Pentagon were succeeded by staff-level discussions that addressed various operational areas, including the National Guard Bureau’s State Partnership Program, the Air National Guard’s Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Center, and full-spectrum MQ-9 operations.
Singh remarked that such interactions were vital for advancing joint capabilities between the two air forces.
“Engagements like this are essential for enhancing our joint interoperability and fortifying the strategic partnership between our air forces,” he noted.
Outside Washington, Singh proceeded to Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado, where he received a briefing on the North American Aerospace Defense Command mission, which includes aerospace and maritime warning for North America. He also visited Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, where he attended briefings at the US Air Force Warfare Center and participated in a familiarization flight aboard an F-15EX Eagle II.
