New Delhi, Oct 9 (NationPress) Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday to address various pressing matters concerning the hill state.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the Finance Minister for her financial assistance to Uttarakhand and praised her for the successful execution of GST reforms.
Dhami highlighted the state's challenges, asserting the urgent need for an upgrade to the urban drainage systems, considering Uttarakhand's ecologically sensitive terrain, high rainfall, and rapidly increasing urban population.
He informed the Finance Minister that detailed project reports (DPRs) amounting to Rs 8,589.47 crore have been prepared to enhance stormwater drainage in ten of the most rain-affected districts. He urged the Centre to approve these initiatives under the Special Assistance to States Scheme for Capital Investment.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister advocated for the expedited approval of Externally Aided Projects (EAPs). Proposals totaling Rs 850 crore for the Public Financial Management Strengthening Project and Rs 800 crore for Water Supply Improvement are still awaiting approval, while the Uttarakhand Climate Resilience Development Project has already received the green light.
In addition, Dhami requested an extension on the cap for externally aided projects from 2023–2024 to 2025–2026, along with the approval of four significant projects.
These projects encompass the Water and Sanitation Urban Infrastructure Development Project (Rs 2,000 crore), the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project-III (DRIP-III) (Rs 424 crore), the Uttarakhand Climate Resilient Intra-State Power Transmission System Development (Rs 3,638 crore), and the Uttarakhand Power Distribution Reliability Improvement Project (Rs 1,566 crore).
Dhami stated, “These projects will significantly enhance the state’s infrastructure, water resources, energy systems, and public service delivery.”
In response, Finance Minister Sitharaman assured the Chief Minister of all possible support from the Centre.
