Gandhinagar, July 13 (NationPress) Following the tragic bridge collapse in Vadodara district of Gujarat that left the nation in shock, the families of the victims, including both the deceased and those injured, are receiving financial support of Rs 4 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively, as stated by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
The Chief Minister announced this compensation while initiating a comprehensive inquiry into the Mujpur-Gambhira bridge collapse that occurred last week and resulted in the loss of over a dozen lives.
According to a government announcement, a total of Rs 62 lakh in financial aid has been disbursed to the victims' families as of Sunday.
On Sunday, Chhotaudepur MP Jashubhai Rathwa and Padra MLA Chaitanya Singh Jhala handed out cheques to the affected families. During their visit, they expressed their condolences and hoped for the swift recovery of those injured.
Administrative officials were also present to facilitate the distribution of cheques to the relatives of those affected by this sudden tragedy.
To date, a total of Rs 62 lakh has been distributed, which includes support for four injured individuals and the families of 15 deceased.
The incident took place on July 9 around 7:30 a.m. when a section of the Gambhira bridge, crossing the Mahisagar River near Mujpur village, unexpectedly collapsed into the river.
This bridge served as a vital link between the Vadodara and Anand districts, connecting Central Gujarat to the Saurashtra region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his sorrow over the incident, announcing Rs 2 lakh as ex gratia for the family of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured, from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
