Gandhinagar, July 13 (NationPress) Just five days following the tragic collapse of the bridge over the Mahisagar river in Vadodara that led to the loss of more than a dozen lives, the Gujarat government has approved the construction of a new two-lane high-level bridge near Mujpur.
This new bridge will be built parallel to the collapsed Mujpur-Gambhira bridge over the Mahisagar river, with an anticipated completion timeframe of 18 months. The relevant department has initiated the tendering process for its construction.
According to an official statement, a comprehensive project report was developed by the Roads and Buildings Department after conducting a survey of the replacement bridge. It will establish a vital link between Padra and Anklav.
Additionally, Superintending Engineer N. V. Rathva revealed that the current two-lane Mujpur approach road will undergo expansion into a four-lane road, measuring 7 meters in width. The 4.2 km section from the highway to the bridge will also be widened to four lanes.
The unfortunate failure of the existing Mujpur-Gambhira bridge severed vital connectivity between Central Gujarat and Saurashtra, creating significant obstacles for local commuters and students. This disruption likely prompted the Chief Minister to swiftly authorize the new project just days after the incident.
On Sunday, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel granted administrative approval to the Roads and Buildings Department for the construction of this new two-lane bridge, with construction expected to commence shortly after the tendering process concludes.
Earlier that same day, the state government completed the distribution of Rs 62 lakh in financial aid to the families affected by the bridge collapse, including those who lost loved ones and individuals who sustained injuries.
According to official figures, cheques totaling Rs 62 lakh have been handed out as of Sunday, benefiting the families of 15 deceased individuals and four injured persons.
