Patna, May 23 (NationPress) Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw commenced a two-day visit to Bihar on Friday, departing from Patna Junction via inspection car towards the Jamalpur Rail Engine Factory.
He was joined by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, known as Lalan Singh, along with Bihar's Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Choudhary, as well as senior railway officials.
The timing of this visit is particularly significant as it precedes the Bihar Assembly elections.
During his time in the state, the Railway Minister plans to lay the foundation stone for a Wagon Periodic Overhauling (POH) facility at the Jamalpur Rail Engine Factory, which has an investment of Rs 79 crore.
This facility, once operational, will allow for the monthly overhauling of 545 to 800 freight wagons, thereby improving the efficiency and capacity of Indian Railways’ freight operations in the area.
Moreover, the Jamalpur factory is anticipated to take on the vital task of maintaining LHB coaches and Vande Bharat trains, representing a notable enhancement of its technical and operational capabilities.
Union Minister Vaishnaw will also evaluate various technical departments within the factory, engage with workers, and commend the efforts of the railway personnel.
This visit is viewed as a potential milestone for the development of rail infrastructure in Bihar.
Sources indicate that the Railway Minister may announce new train services, the redevelopment of stations under the Amrit Bharat Yojana, and updates on pending rail projects.
The emphasis is likely to be on enhancing connectivity, station facilities, and passenger comfort.
Recently, the Central government unveiled a substantial allocation of Rs 70,672 crore for railway infrastructure improvements in Bihar, designated for new rail lines, gauge conversion, station redevelopment, electrification, and job-creating railway hubs.
These initiatives are expected to not only enhance connectivity and logistics in the state but also stimulate employment and economic development, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.
With Bihar gearing up for elections later this year, this visit is under close scrutiny for both its developmental commitments and political implications.
