Bhubaneswar, March 9 (NationPress) - The esteemed Biju Janata Dal (BJD) figure and former minister Ananta Das has passed away at the age of 85 in Bhubaneshwar on Sunday. He took his last breath at his home during the early hours of the day. Das served as the representative for the Bhograi constituency in Balasore district, securing his seat four times in a row from 2004 to 2019 under the BJD banner.

Throughout his political career, Das held various ministerial roles, overseeing the higher education and industries departments from 2017 to 2019. He also served as the chief whip of the Odisha Assembly between 2014 and 2017.

The veteran leader, an alumnus of the Orissa Administrative Service, held multiple significant positions including Consolidation Officer, BDO, Tahasildar, Executive Officer of Balasore Municipality, District Development Officer in Cuttack, Deputy Secretary at the State Election Commission, and Additional District Magistrate in Nabakalebar Puri, among others.

Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed profound grief over the demise of the former minister. In a message of condolence, he referred to Ananta Das as a beloved leader and competent administrator, underscoring his substantial contributions to the development of Odisha and the Balasore region during his tenure.

"The state has lost a committed public servant with his passing," stated the Chief Minister.

He also extended sympathies to the grieving family and offered prayers for the soul's eternal peace.

BJD leader Naveen Patnaik also conveyed his condolences regarding Das's death. "I am saddened to hear of the loss of senior party leader and former minister Ananta Das. His extensive service to the community as a legislator will be fondly remembered. I send my heartfelt condolences to the family during this difficult time and pray for his soul's eternal peace," wrote Patnaik on his X account.
