Vijay of TVK Amplifies Election Campaign, Vows People-Focused Governance in Puducherry
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Puducherry, April 4 (NationPress) Actor-turned-politician and head of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, ramped up his election efforts in Puducherry on Saturday, confidently stating that his party has chosen candidates who stand "with the people, as one among them".
As the date for the 30-member Puducherry Assembly elections approaches on April 9, the political climate is buzzing, with just four days remaining for campaigning.
Vijay spoke at a public meeting in the Thattanchavadi market area, attracting a significant crowd of supporters. Prior to this, he led a roadshow that reportedly extended beyond the time limit set by the police before heading to the campaign location.
During the rally, he highlighted that this is his party's inaugural contest in Puducherry and stressed that the selection of candidates was grounded in their connection to the grassroots rather than their political backgrounds.
In a pointed critique of his opponents, Vijay condemned both the DMK-Congress alliance and the NR Congress-BJP coalition. He remarked that while the Congress has governed Puducherry multiple times and the DMK has held power thrice, their current alliance exists "only in name" and is riddled with internal contradictions. He accused the leaders within this alliance of betraying both the electorate and their own leadership, rendering it a source of ridicule.
Regarding the NR Congress-BJP coalition, Vijay labeled it as "weak and opportunistic", asserting that they are exploiting his party for political leverage.
He challenged both Congress and BJP for their inability to grant statehood to Puducherry, despite their respective periods of governance at the Union level. He committed that his party would make "100 per cent efforts" to achieve statehood if elected.
Outlining his commitments, Vijay declared that a TVK government would promptly conduct local body elections, fill all governmental vacancies, and provide Rs 25 lakh insurance coverage for each family.
Presenting the election as a choice between "deceptive alliances" and "people-oriented governance", Vijay urged voters to dismiss the major coalitions and allow his party the chance to govern.
"Puducherry requires effective governance. Allow us the opportunity, and we will stand by you," he concluded.
