Kochi, June 4 (NationPress) The Central government is dedicated to boosting farmers’ earnings by enhancing output across various crops in the agriculture and allied sectors, according to a senior official from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on Wednesday.
This initiative involves scientists and experts from 113 ICAR institutes and 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), along with officials from state-level departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries, as well as innovative farmers.
Dr. Raghavendra Bhatta, ICAR's Deputy Director General for Animal Science, stated that the ongoing ‘lab to land’ initiative under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA) is poised to significantly boost productivity in the upcoming seasons.
"A notable increase in production is anticipated across crops, animal husbandry, and fisheries," Bhatta remarked during a special VKSA session at the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) in Kochi.
Bhatta, who coordinates VKSA for Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep, emphasized that the technological innovations and scientific solutions being introduced to the farming community in 700 districts nationwide will be vital for transforming India’s agricultural landscape.
"Through this initiative, scientists and experts from research institutions and Krishi Vigyan Kendras are directly engaging with farmers, addressing their concerns, and providing on-site solutions. This groundbreaking initiative will facilitate the widespread adoption of advanced farming techniques, refine farming practices, and enhance resource management, ultimately leading to quality production across crops," he added.
"By merging scientific innovations with traditional farming knowledge, the VKSA is expected to significantly impact the country’s agriculture and allied sectors by increasing crop yields, improving livestock and dairy productivity, and enhancing aquaculture output," he noted.
CMFRI scientists are seizing this opportunity to promote their cutting-edge technologies in cage fish farming, marine ornamental fish farming, and seaweed cultivation. On Wednesday, Bhatta distributed fishing kits to 80 Scheduled Tribe farmers.
