Kolkata, Sep 22 (NationPress) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday conveyed her heartfelt wishes to the public in celebration of Navratri.
This annual Hindu festival, dedicated to Goddess Durga, holds immense importance in eastern and northeastern India, especially as it coincides with the vibrant Durga Puja. The festival commemorates the victory of Goddess Durga over the buffalo demon Mahishasura, symbolizing the restoration of dharma.
In a message shared on X, the Chief Minister stated, "I extend my warm greetings to everyone on this auspicious occasion of Navratri."
CM Mamata has been actively involved in the Durga Puja festivities across the state.
On Sunday, she inaugurated several Durga Puja pandals and reiterated her belief that peace and harmony can thrive only in a climate of unity. A day earlier, she opened multiple mandaps and emphasized the notion of unity in diversity.
She also urged the public to exercise caution due to the unpredictable weather conditions.
"We need to remain vigilant. We are monitoring the situation closely. If rains hit Jharkhand, Bihar, and our state, we could be impacted. Similarly, heavy rainfall in neighboring states often leads to floods here due to overflowing reservoirs. Given Bengal's geographical positioning, we encounter such challenges. Let's pray for a rain-free Durga Puja as millions look forward to the celebrations," she expressed.
Banerjee declared that she plans to inaugurate around 3,000 Durga Puja events, most of which will be done virtually, leading up to the five-day festival.
Additionally, she revealed that 17 songs she has written will be released on Mahalaya, marking the start of Devi Paksha.
On Saturday afternoon, the Chief Minister launched the Hatibagan Durga Puja and the Tala Prottoy Puja. During her address at the event, she clarified that she would not unveil the idols prior to Mahalaya.
"I will not unveil the deities, as that should only occur from Mahalaya, marking the onset of Devi Paksha. I am solely inaugurating the pandals, showcasing stunning interiors that reflect the heritage and beauty of Bengal," she stated.
