Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 27 (NationPress) Two months after Sandeep Warrier, a previous BJP leader from Kerala, made the switch to Congress, he has now been appointed as the party's spokesperson.

On Monday, the Congress party announced Warrier's inclusion in its roster of spokespersons. Henceforth, Warrier, who was among the most prominent and favored BJP leaders for media interactions until November, will now advocate for the Congress party.

According to sources within Congress, this is just the initial role assigned to him, and during the forthcoming organizational overhaul, the party plans to entrust him with more significant duties.

Warrier joined the Congress just days before the crucial by-election for Kerala's Palakkad Assembly seat in November of last year. The event was graced by notable Congress leaders, including state President and Kannur Lok Sabha member K. Sudhakaran, General Secretary in charge of Kerala Deepadas Munshi, Leader of Opposition V. D. Satheesan, among others.

Welcoming Warrier, State Congress president K. Sudhakaran expressed his enthusiasm, stating that this was a joyous moment for the Congress. “Warrier has been the face and voice of the BJP for a long time. When he chose to advocate for a secular cause, we invited him to join us, and he accepted. His inclusion will be advantageous for both us and the state, as it sends a powerful message,” he remarked.

When the votes were tallied in Palakkad, the Congress candidate won by nearly five times the margin achieved in the 2021 Assembly elections, with Warrier's arrival into the party being acknowledged as a contributing factor.

Following Shafi Parambil's victory in the Lok Sabha elections from Vadakara, he vacated the Palakkad Assembly seat. While the Congress secured the seat by a substantial margin, the BJP candidate maintained the second position, with the CPI(M) candidate finishing third.
