Ex-BJP Leader Claims Party's Affection for Christians is Insincere

Palakkad, Dec 23 (NationPress) Former BJP leader Sandeep Warrier, who was once a key youth figure within the party in Kerala, has leveled accusations against the state BJP leadership for pretending to show affection towards Christians and Christianity.
Warrier stated on Monday, “The BJP’s recent ‘affection’ for Christians is nothing but a facade”. His comments come on the heels of his recent departure from the BJP during the Palakkad assembly by-election last month, where he made a surprising switch to the Congress party.
His remarks coincide with an incident in Palakkad involving the arrest of three activists from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) for interrupting Christmas festivities at a public school. The Kerala Police have charged these individuals with inciting religious animosity following a report filed by the school headmistress, Jayanthi.
The disruption took place on Friday as teachers and students were engaged in Christmas celebrations. The group allegedly forced their way in, demanding that no festivities should take place unless Sri Krishna Jayanthi celebrations were also conducted.
Warrier mentioned that two of those arrested – K. Anilkumar, V. Susasanan, and K. Velayudhan – are recognized BJP activists who had been actively participating in the recent Palakkad by-election campaign.
George Kurian, Union Minister of State for Fisheries, condemned the occurrence, asserting, “Such incidents should never happen. I commend the Kerala government’s response. Celebrations like Christmas or events honoring Mohammed Nabi should be promoted to educate children about various religions.”
In the meantime, senior BJP figure and former Union Minister V. Muraleedharan expressed doubt regarding the BJP’s connection to the situation. “Even now, Prime Minister Modi is engaging with Christian Church leaders. Let the investigation by the police take its course,” he remarked.
The headmistress’ report indicated that during the Christmas celebration, a group entered the school premises, chanting slogans against the event and questioning why Sri Krishna Jayanthi celebrations had not been observed on the campus.
