Wayanad's Educational Facilities in Kerala to Close Today Due to IMD's Red Alert for Intense Rainfall

Wayanad, Dec 2 (NationPress) All educational establishments in Kerala's Wayanad, encompassing tuition centres, anganwadis, and professional colleges, will remain closed today as a result of a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Nevertheless, this closure does not extend to Model Residential Schools, as per the announcement from the District Collector.
The IMD has declared a red alert for four districts in Kerala—Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur—cautioning against exceptionally heavy rainfall and localized heavy rains on this day.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has also warned of possible waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
According to the IMD, "Rainfall activity is predicted to escalate with light to moderate rains in most areas, alongside heavy to very heavy rains in certain locations and extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas on December 2, followed by heavy rainfall in isolated areas on December 3."
Furthermore, the IMD has issued alerts for additional districts in Kerala, including an orange alert for Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur, as well as a yellow alert for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Palakkad, and several northern districts.
According to the IMD's alert criteria, a red alert signifies rainfall exceeding 20 cm within 24 hours, an orange alert indicates rainfall between 11-20 cm, and a yellow alert signifies rainfall from 6-11 cm.
In light of the heavy rains caused by Cyclone Fengal, a holiday has also been announced for Monday in all government and government-aided schools, private institutions, and colleges in Puducherry, as stated by the Union Territory's Education Minister A. Namachivayam on Sunday.
Additionally, a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in the Villupuram, Cuddalore, Vellore, and Ranipet districts of Tamil Nadu.
This decision was made by local administrations in response to adverse weather conditions triggered by Cyclone Fengal. Heavy rainfall has already been observed across numerous areas in Tamil Nadu since Saturday morning.
Cyclone Fengal made landfall on the shores of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Saturday.
