Kolkata, May 28 (NationPress) With less than 48 hours remaining for the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) to release the notification for new recruitment in government schools, officials from the state's Legal Affairs Department are engaged in a final detailed examination of the draft.
An official from the state Secretariat disclosed that the Legal Affairs Department is meticulously reviewing each term in the draft notification to eliminate any possibility of a legal challenge.
“Simultaneously, it has been decided that while the WBSSC will oversee the entire fresh recruitment process, the Chief Minister’s Office and the Legal Affairs Department will maintain constant oversight. The goal is to ensure that the new recruitment process is as robust and transparent as possible,” stated the senior government official, who requested anonymity.
In the upcoming recruitment process, the WBSSC intends to implement measures to enhance transparency. “One such measure will be to keep the optical mark recognition sheets utilized in the written exams for a more extended period and also to store their digital copies on the commission's server,” the official noted.
Additionally, candidates who take the written examinations will be permitted to keep carbon copies of their respective OMR sheets.
On Tuesday afternoon, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that the WBSSC will issue its notification for new recruitments to fill vacant positions in state-run schools on May 30.
She also indicated that even the ‘untainted’ teachers, who lost their jobs due to a Supreme Court ruling in the cash-for-job scandal, will be required to sit for the written examination for recruitment. On April 3, the Supreme Court upheld the Calcutta High Court's decision, which annulled 25,753 school appointments made through the WBSSC, directing the state government to initiate a new recruitment process by May 31.
Given that teachers who secured their positions without any monetary exchange had been asserting they would not participate in a new written examination, the Chief Minister emphasized that, following the Supreme Court's order, they have no alternative but to take the test.
