New Delhi, Jan 7 (NationPress) In response to the stone-pelting incident during a demolition operation near a mosque in Old Delhi, BJP MP Yogender Chandolia stated on Wednesday that while all religions are respected, encroachment will be deemed unacceptable under any conditions.
In an interview with IANS, Yogender Chandolia remarked, "We honor all faiths, but encroachment will not be accepted in any form. Those accountable will face consequences; there shall be no encroachment in Delhi. Necessary actions must be executed, whether by the police, municipal authorities, or the Delhi Development Authority. This applies not just to one locality, but to all of Delhi; encroachment is entirely intolerable."
In a related development, the Delhi Police have apprehended ten individuals following the registration of an FIR concerning the stone-pelting episode that occurred during the demolition operation near the mosque in Old Delhi, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The confrontation transpired near the Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque in the Turkman Gate area, adjacent to Ramlila Ground, where officials conducted an anti-encroachment initiative.
Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials noted that the demolition was aimed at dismantling unauthorized structures from land adjacent to the mosque and its vicinity, following the directives issued by the Delhi High Court on November 12, 2025.
The demolition commenced early Wednesday morning, with a significant presence of civic staff and police officers. Reports indicated that between 10 and 17 bulldozers were deployed to ensure prompt action.
As the demolition began, numerous local residents congregated outside the mosque, chanting slogans and protesting against the operation. Tensions escalated when some individuals attempted to break through police barricades and began throwing stones at law enforcement.
To manage the unrest and prevent further violence, police were compelled to deploy tear gas shells to disperse the demonstrators. Senior police officials later affirmed that order was restored, with additional security measures implemented in the area as a precaution.
In a discussion regarding the Uttar Pradesh Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Draft Voter List 2026, BJP MP Yogender Chandolia mentioned that approximately two crore names were eliminated from the voter registry in the state. He noted that a month-long period has been established for individuals to contest and confirm their names at designated locations.
He indicated that the removal of such a large quantity of names signifies that the voter list had not seen updates for an extended time.
"Yet, when a similar procedure occurs in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reacts with hostility. This process is impartial. There is ample time for additions or corrections. If necessary, names will be reinstated. Such an exercise is vital as the list may include Rohingyas, deceased individuals, or those who have moved. The Election Commission of India is performing commendably," Chandolia added.
On Tuesday, the Election Commission of India released the draft electoral roll in Uttar Pradesh as part of the Special Intensive Revision effort, revealing over 12.55 crore eligible voters in the state, while nearly 2.89 crore names were removed.
Uttar Pradesh's Chief Electoral Officer, Navdeep Rinwa, informed the media that during the Special Intensive Revision, approximately 2.17 crore voters were identified as missing or relocated from their registered addresses.
Additionally, 25.47 lakh voters were found to be registered in multiple locations, he stated.
Encouraging voters with missing names on the draft list to complete Form 6, the CEO stated that claims and objections can be submitted until February 6.
During the revision, 46.23 lakh voters were discovered to have passed away since the last review. He added that 18.70% of voters' signatures failed to validate during the SIR process.
