West Bengal: Discovery of Young Woman's Body in Sandeshkhali Raises Rape and Murder Concerns

Kolkata, Dec 7 (NationPress) The remains of a young woman were found in a pond located in Sandeshkhali, part of the North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, on Saturday, according to official sources.
Authorities revealed that bricks were attached to the body to ensure it sank.
The victim's relatives have accused that she was raped and subsequently murdered.
Officials confirmed that the victim's remains have been sent for a post-mortem examination.
Reports indicate that the woman had been missing since December 4, prompting her family to file a missing persons report at the Nazat Police Station.
The victim's mother stated that she accompanied her daughter to a nearby cowshed to feed the animals.
“I returned home first. My daughter mentioned she would come back shortly. However, she did not return and has been missing since then. We initially searched locally before reporting her disappearance to the Nazat Police Station,” she recounted.
The superintendent of the Basirhat Police District, M Rahaman, noted that an investigation has commenced based on the family’s complaints.
“We are optimistic about apprehending the suspects soon, and they will be held accountable under the law,” he stated.
Earlier this year, Sandeshkhali experienced unrest following reports of women facing sexual harassment and land grabbing by local Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates.
