Kolkata, Dec 7 (NationPress) The partially clothed body of a woman was discovered in a wooded region of Nodakhali, located in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district on Sunday, as confirmed by an official. In relation to this incident, two individuals have been apprehended.

Reports indicate that the woman's remains were located in a forested area adjacent to her residence in Nodakhali, inciting anger and concern among local community members.

Family and neighbors have expressed allegations that the woman was subjected to rape and subsequently murdered, suggesting that the attack occurred very near her home, which has heightened local fears.

Nevertheless, police officials stated that it is currently impossible to verify whether she was sexually assaulted, emphasizing that any further conclusions will depend on the postmortem report from the relevant hospital.

Authorities have detained two suspects in connection with the case and are interrogating them to determine their precise involvement and whether a broader conspiracy exists.

According to police accounts, residents in the vicinity discovered a woman lying in the wooded area close to her house during the early hours of Sunday. Her saree and clothing were torn, with multiple visible injury marks on her body.

Upon learning about the incident, local residents rushed to the site, pulling the woman from the forested area and transporting her to a hospital in critical condition. The police were promptly notified and arrived shortly thereafter.

Medical personnel at the hospital declared the woman deceased upon arrival. Subsequently, family members alleged that she had been raped and murdered in the nearby forest and demanded prompt action against those responsible.

Nodakhali police have already apprehended two suspects in relation to the incident, and questioning is ongoing.

A murder case has been filed following a complaint from the deceased's family. "The body has been sent for an autopsy. Once we receive the report, we will confirm whether she was raped. A murder case has been initiated, and two suspects are under investigation to determine if others are involved. The inquiry is ongoing, examining all angles," stated a senior police official.

Local residents reported that the woman's body was found wrapped only in a blood-stained sheet.

“She had no known conflicts with anyone. She was a wonderful person. Her husband passed away a few years ago. She was discovered very close to her home, and the entire community is in shock,” commented a local.
