West Bengal Police Presents Findings to Calcutta High Court Regarding Cyber Police Station Facilities

Kolkata, Dec 12 (NationPress) On Thursday, the West Bengal Police provided a thorough report to a division bench of the Calcutta High Court regarding the arrangements in place at several cyber police stations in the state.
This report, presented to the division bench of Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Gaurang Kanth, included details from the office of the state's Director General of Police about the training programs available for officers assigned to these cyber police stations, alongside the current infrastructure of these facilities.
The submission came in response to the bench's directive during a hearing on November 28, concerning a case linked to the posting of inappropriate images of a woman on social media, which was filed at the Murutia Police Station in Nadia district.
Additionally, on Thursday, the division bench requested that the state police provide another report detailing the status of similar cases lodged at various cyber police stations in the state, with a deadline set for next week.
During the hearing on November 28, the state police faced criticism from the division bench regarding the inadequate training afforded to officers at different cyber police stations.
The bench pointed out that even though various charges were brought forward by the investigation team for the case registered at the Murutia Police Station, not a single charge related to the cybercrime laws was included.
The victim, who approached the Calcutta High Court, claimed that due to this oversight, the accused in her case was able to secure bail with ease. The division bench remarked that there was little point in maintaining specialized cyber police stations if they function like ordinary police stations.
It was also noted that it was quite unfortunate for an accused to gain bail because of the absence of charges under cybercrime legislation, leading to questions about who would be accountable for such oversights.
