Kolkata, April 19 (NationPress) Women in Dhuliyan, a highly affected region in West Bengal's minority-populated Murshidabad district, have implored the Central government to establish permanent Border Security Force (BSF) camps in areas ravaged by violence to guarantee their safety after recent communal tensions regarding protests against the Waqf Act.

On Saturday, a group from the National Commission for Women (NCW), headed by chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, visited Dhuliyan to meet individuals impacted by last week’s violence, predominantly Hindus.

During their interaction with the delegation, numerous women became emotional and appealed for the consistent presence of central forces.

“We cannot endure without permanent BSF camps here. If required, we are willing to provide our own land and homes for their establishment,” a woman cried, kneeling and touching the feet of a delegation member.

The NCW representatives assured the community that their worries would be communicated to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

“We are here to support you in this crisis. The entire nation is observing and standing with you. We will prepare a comprehensive report for the Centre and advocate for the permanent presence of BSF in this area,” a delegation member stated to the women.

Prior to Saturday’s visit, NCW member Archana Majumdar had emphasized the necessity of permanent Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) camps in the locality.

“The women victims in Murshidabad have explicitly articulated the need for permanent CAPF deployment to safeguard their dignity and security. We will bring this matter to the Union government's attention,” Majumdar remarked on Friday.

Simultaneously, the Murshidabad district administration has compiled a preliminary assessment of property damage. Initial estimates indicate that over 250 houses and 100 shops—mostly owned by Hindus—were damaged during the unrest.

“This is merely the initial estimate. The actual number may increase as we finalize the detailed evaluation,” a senior district official mentioned.
