New Delhi, March 10 (NationPress) Over 30.68 crore unorganised workers have registered for social welfare benefits on the government’s e-Shram portal -- with over half of them (53.68%) being women (as of March 3), as informed by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

In alignment with the vision articulated in the budget announcement regarding the development of e-Shram as a one-stop-solution for unorganised workers to access various social security schemes, the Ministry of Labour and Employment launched the e-Shram–“One-Stop-Solution” on October 21, 2024.

The e-Shram–“One-Stop-Solution” integrates various social security schemes into a single portal. This functionality allows unorganised workers registered on e-Shram to access social security schemes and view the benefits they have availed of so far, through e-Shram.

Currently, 13 schemes from different Central Ministries/Departments have been integrated with e-Shram, including Pradhan Mantri Street Vendors Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PM-SVANidhi), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), and Ayushman Bharat.

To enhance the accessibility of the e-Shram portal, the Ministry of Labour and Employment launched a multilingual functionality on the e-Shram portal on January 7, utilizing the Bhashini platform. This upgrade enables workers to interact with the e-Shram portal in 22 Indian languages, significantly improving accessibility and promoting inclusivity for all, the minister stated in a written reply.

To ensure that e-Shram and its associated services are readily available to unorganised workers, the Ministry introduced the e-Shram mobile application on February 24. This application offers real-time access to welfare schemes integrated with e-Shram, greatly enhancing accessibility and convenience.

The Ministry has also taken steps to raise awareness among unorganised workers by conducting periodic review meetings with states and regular discussions with Common Services Centre (CSC).

The e-Shram portal has been integrated with the National Career Service (NCS) and Skill India Digital Portal to provide employment and skilling opportunities. Additionally, to facilitate enrolment under the pension scheme, e-Shram is linked with Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandan (PMSYM), according to the minister.

To create a comprehensive search and discovery platform for government schemes, e-Shram is integrated with the myScheme portal, and an SMS campaign is being conducted to raise awareness, the minister added.

The Ministry launched the e-Shram portal (eshram.gov.in) on August 26, 2021, to establish a comprehensive National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW) seeded with Aadhaar. The e-Shram portal aims to register and support unorganised workers by providing them with a Universal Account Number (UAN) based on self-declaration.
