New Delhi, June 21 (NationPress) In addition to its physical health advantages, yoga proves to be essential for mental well-being and significantly alleviates stress, as stated by Union Ministers during the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations on Saturday.
Celebrated worldwide on June 21 each year, International Yoga Day was initially proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 and was rapidly embraced by the United Nations, with support from 177 nations.
“Yoga is crucial not only for physical wellness but also for mental wellness. It diminishes stress, soothes the mind, and fosters balance in life,” declared Union Minister for Health JP Nadda in a post on social media platform X.
While leading the yoga festivities in New Delhi, Nadda described yoga as a mental exercise that harmonizes the mind, brain, and spirit.
“Yoga fosters a mental equilibrium by helping individuals recognize their true selves, promoting unity among body, mind, and spirit. It also allows the spirit to connect with the divine. This practice cultivates positivity in both body and mind, enabling greater success,” Nadda encouraged, urging everyone to embrace India's ancient wellness tradition.
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Ayush reaffirmed that yoga has become a universal remedy for both physical and mental health.
“Amidst global challenges of imbalance and stress, India’s yoga stands as a beacon of hope,” he noted in a post on X.
Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Health, described yoga as “an invaluable gift from Indian culture.”
“Yoga has guided the entire world towards a healthier existence. It is a remarkable science that unites body, mind, and soul. On this World Yoga Day, let's commit to advocating a healthy, active, and positive lifestyle by integrating yoga into our daily lives. Practice yoga, stay healthy!” she stated on X.
The positive impact of yoga on mental health is well-documented. Research from AIIMS, New Delhi, indicates that yoga plays a significant role in treating cardiac and neurological disorders and is vital for women's health and mental wellness.
Pralhad Joshi, the Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, urged individuals to “practice yoga daily to achieve good health, prosperity, and societal peace.”
Previously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while leading the Yoga Day celebrations from Vishakhapatnam, mentioned that yoga offers the world a path to peace during these turbulent times marked by conflicts and unrest.
He also unveiled a special commemorative postage stamp to honor the 11th edition of International Yoga Day.
“This stamp embodies India's ancient yoga tradition and its acceptance worldwide. It serves not only as a memento but also as a message for future generations that yoga is not just India's cultural legacy but also a guide for global health and harmony,” Jadhav remarked.
Meanwhile, Nirmala Sitharaman, who led the Yoga Day event at the Arun Jaitley National Institute of Financial Management (AJNIFM) in Faridabad, emphasized this year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
This theme “highlights the interconnectedness of human and planetary health, resonating with the global vision of collective wellness, rooted in India’s philosophy of 'Sarve Santu Niramaya' (May all be free from disease),” stated Nirmala Sitharaman's Office on X.
