Kolkata, June 18 (NationPress) A young man, accused of the heinous crime of raping and murdering an eight-year-old girl in Bankura district of West Bengal, was allegedly lynched by local residents in the early hours of Wednesday.
The authorities from Patrasayar Police Station have initiated two distinct investigations: one into the alleged rape and murder case and another into the lynching of the accused.
The individual reportedly killed by the villagers has been identified as Lalu Prasad Lohar. The victim, tragically, was merely eight years old.
Local witnesses reported that the youth lured the young girl to a secluded area early Wednesday morning. He then dragged her into a nearby forest where he committed the assault.
Subsequently, he strangled the child and began digging a grave to conceal her body. However, his actions were witnessed by a few villagers.
Upon being alerted, other residents of the village hurried to the scene.
As they approached, the accused attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended.
During interrogation by the villagers, he confessed to the rape and murder of the minor. Enraged, some local youths began to beat him, resulting in his death due to the injuries sustained.
Local law enforcement was notified, and a significant police presence arrived at the village.
The authorities recovered the remains of both the minor girl and the accused, with both bodies sent for post-mortem.
Two separate cases have been filed, but no arrests have been made concerning the lynching incident as of yet.
The victim’s devastated father lamented, “My daughter went outside after the rain stopped last night, and she has been missing ever since. I have lost everything.”
West Bengal has been in the spotlight due to multiple cases of rape and murder over the past year.
One of the most prominent cases involved the rape and murder of a junior doctor within the premises of R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata last August.
