New Delhi, June 18 (NationPress) As the conflict intensifies between Israel and Iran, the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, confidently stated that India possesses ample supplies of petrol and diesel.

In an interview with IANS, the Minister reassured citizens that there is no cause for alarm at this time.

In light of concerns regarding potential supply interruptions due to the Middle Eastern discord, he remarked: "Let me clarify that there is no deficiency of petrol and diesel in our nation. There’s no need for public concern."

He further explained that currently, there is no global deficit in crude oil.

Puri highlighted India's strategic move to diversify its crude oil sources, expanding from 27 to 40 suppliers.

"Alongside crude imports, we are enhancing our domestic production. Our output is on the rise, and we have adequate stock available," Puri stated during the IANS interview.

According to a report by MK Global, Iran produces around 3.3 million barrels per day (mbpd) of crude oil, exporting close to 1.5 mbpd.

Geographically, Iran is located along the northern periphery of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage where over 20 mbpd of global oil trade transits.

This situation has prompted apprehensions that escalating regional tensions might impact India's crude imports.

Puri also elaborated on the extensive benefits of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government's welfare initiatives. He praised the achievements of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, stating: "Since its inception in 2016, the initiative has positively impacted over 10.33 crore underprivileged households."

Moreover, he pointed out that access to LPG cylinders, previously restricted to urban centers, has now reached rural areas nationwide.

"The Modi administration has ensured that LPG cylinders are readily available even in remote villages," he asserted.

The Minister also highlighted India's advancements in alternative fuels, stating, "In 2014, our biofuel blending rate stood at just 1.4 percent. Today, that figure has surged to 20 percent," emphasizing the government's commitment to environmentally-friendly energy solutions.

Point of View

It's crucial to understand the implications of global conflicts on local markets. While concerns about fuel supply amidst the Israel-Iran conflict are valid, the government's reassurances and proactive measures in diversifying oil sources indicate a robust strategy. It’s important for citizens to stay informed and trust the expertise guiding our energy policies.
