Guwahati, Nov 7 (NationPress) Nearly 50 days following the unexpected passing of singer Zubeen Garg, his former manager, Tarsame Mittal, appeared before the CID in Guwahati on Friday to provide his statement.
Mittal was called in as part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the artist's death, where the state-government-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been questioning numerous individuals linked to Garg's professional network.
The interrogation sessions reportedly focused on possible financial and managerial discrepancies that surfaced after Garg's passing.
Mittal, who had been managing Garg's affairs for an extended period, was succeeded by Siddharth Sharma, who is currently in judicial custody.
Notably, investigators assert that Sharma joined Garg's management team through a recommendation from Mittal, indicating a close professional bond that could provide crucial insights into the financial matters under scrutiny.
On September 19, Garg tragically died in Singapore during his role as brand ambassador for the North East India Festival.
The death certificate from Singapore cites drowning as the cause of death.
On September 25, the Assam government established an SIT to investigate the case. Recently, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that Garg's death would be classified as a murder case rather than an accidental misadventure.
He has set a deadline of December 8 for the SIT to submit its charge sheet, noting that due to the incident occurring abroad, approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is necessary before charges can be formally initiated.
The investigation currently encompasses both the events leading to the singer's death and alleged irregularities in his financial and managerial operations.
Mittal's testimony is regarded as a significant piece of the investigation puzzle, considering his former role and connection to the new manager.
The SIT's objective is to determine whether negligence, criminal conspiracy, or other serious breaches contributed to this unfortunate incident and to ensure accountability for what the Chief Minister has labeled a homicide.
