New Delhi, Aug 6 (NationPress) Shipments of 5G smartphones represented an impressive 87 percent of the total smartphone market in India during the April-June quarter, which signifies a 20 percent increase compared to the previous year, according to a report released on Wednesday.
Remarkably, 5G smartphones priced between Rs 8,000 and Rs 10,000 experienced a staggering over 600 percent year-on-year growth, indicating a robust demand for affordable 5G access, as noted in the report by CyberMedia Research (CMR) India.
India's smartphone landscape expanded by 8 percent year-on-year (YoY) in Q2 2025, driven by the rising acceptance of budget-friendly 5G smartphones, effective distribution strategies, and a series of strategic launches across various price segments.
According to Menka Kumari, senior analyst at CMR's Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), the Rs 10,000-Rs 13,000 segment for 5G smartphones saw a remarkable 138 percent YoY growth in Q2 2025, largely fueled by the demand for value-driven devices among first-time upgraders.
Apple recorded substantial double-digit growth in India, seizing a 7 percent market share, primarily due to the strong demand for premium models. The iPhone 16 series, especially the iPhone 16e, played a crucial role in this growth. In the premium segment (above Rs 50,000), Apple’s market share surged by 54 percent year-on-year.
Vivo led the market with a 19 percent share, while Samsung followed closely with a 16 percent share overall in Q2 2025.
Looking ahead to the full year 2025, CMR predicts that the Indian smartphone market will achieve modest growth, with shipments increasing in single digits.
Pankaj Jadli, an analyst at CMR's Industry Intelligence Group, stated that the second half of the year will be crucial, propelled by new smartphone launches aligned with the festive season. Anticipated flagship smartphone launches are expected to boost consumer interest and expedite upgrade cycles.
While there is an increasing awareness of AI-driven features, these remain a minor consideration in purchasing decisions, with consumers focusing more on essential smartphone characteristics like battery life, camera quality, and overall performance,” Jadli added.
