New Delhi, Feb 11 (NationPress) Initiatives are being taken to leverage Artificial Intelligence for the detection of mule accounts, with over 1.9 million such accounts identified and transactions amounting to Rs 2,038 crore thwarted in the ongoing battle against cybercrime, stated Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday.

A mule account refers to a bank account utilized by criminals for the transfer of illicit funds. The individual who owns this account is termed a "money mule".

During a session of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Home Affairs focusing on Cyber Security and Cyber Crime, he noted that in light of the rise in cyber financial fraud, the Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) is promoting its helpline number 1930 as a centralized resource that provides various services, including card blocking.

According to him, a total of 1.43 lakh FIRs have been filed on the I4C portal, with over 19 crore users accessing the portal.

He underscored the necessity of enhancing public awareness to combat cybercrime and urged committee members to advocate for the I4C helpline number, 1930.

The Home Minister also noted that for reasons of national security, 805 apps and 3,266 website links have been blocked following I4C's recommendations.

Moreover, 399 banks and financial entities have participated, with more than 6 lakh suspicious data points shared, leading to the identification of over 19 lakh mule accounts and the prevention of suspicious transactions worth Rs 2,038 crore.

Home Minister Shah indicated that Cyber Crime Forensic Training Labs have been set up in 33 states and Union Territories. The CyTrain platform features a "Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)" with 101,561 police officers enrolled, resulting in the issuance of over 78,000 certificates.

The meeting included Union Ministers of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, committee members, the Union Home Secretary, and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
