New Delhi, Nov 28 (NationPress) The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) is evolving into a crucial catalyst for a cohesive and outcome-driven national research ecosystem, stated Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, on Friday.

During a thorough evaluation of the ANRF at Technology Bhawan in the national capital, Singh highlighted the importance of fostering a culture of co-funding by engaging the non-government sector and advocating an appropriate shift in mindset.

He remarked, “ANRF is becoming a central institution for India’s emergence as a global leader in research and innovation.”

The Minister urged for an acceleration of mission-mode research, an expansion of co-funding collaborations with industry, and streamlining processes to provide researchers with enhanced operational flexibility.

He emphasized that India is progressively moving towards a comprehensive R&D model that incorporates the entire government and society, where ministries, industries, startups, philanthropic foundations, and academic institutions collaboratively influence the national innovation framework.

Singh stressed the necessity for a unified approach that facilitates cross-ministerial scientific initiatives as opposed to isolated schemes, instructing officials to expedite collaboration with the Health Ministry to ensure swift advancements in indigenous medical technologies, including e-health and hydrogen mobility, as well as deep-tech missions.

During the meeting, ANRF CEO Dr. Shivkumar Kalyanaraman provided a comprehensive overview of the foundation’s progress and mission pipeline.

“The operational framework of ANRF is now fully established, encompassing foundational research, mission-mode programs, industry-academic partnerships, and the RDI Fund, which offers patient capital and private co-funding for translation, validation, and scaling,” Kalyanaraman articulated.

He detailed that mission-mode programs in priority sectors such as electric mobility, MedTech, advanced materials, and hydrogen are advancing swiftly.

The CEO also pointed out how the PAIR initiative, which commenced in November 2024, has begun enhancing university research capabilities nationwide by connecting them with premier institutions like IISc, IITs, NITs, and Central Universities.

“Over 40 institutions have already joined the PAIR Category-A networks, leading to higher-quality proposals, stronger mentorship, and increased research productivity,” Kalyanaraman added.

Furthermore, “the Prime Minister Early Career Research Grant has successfully supported 718 young researchers with progressive, research-friendly norms,” he concluded.
