New Delhi, March 20 (NationPress) In response to the escalating temperatures, the Ministry of Ayush has launched a comprehensive nationwide campaign aimed at enhancing public awareness regarding preventive measures against heatwaves.

This initiative follows advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to various regions, urging the public to take note of heatwave safety precautions.

The campaign highlights tips and traditional wellness practices supported by scientific research to assist individuals in remaining safe during extreme heat conditions, as stated by the Ministry.

The Public Health Advisory from the Ayush Vertical under the Director General of Health Services has also provided additional guidelines for heatwave prevention.

Recommendations include staying hydrated throughout the day with fluids such as buttermilk, coconut water, and fruit juices to help regulate body temperature.

To limit sun exposure, using an umbrella or sporting a wide-brimmed hat outdoors is advised to prevent heatstroke and sunburn.

The advisory further recommends consuming light and easily digestible meals while steering clear of heavy or oily foods that can raise body heat.

Wearing full-sleeved, loose-fitting clothing made of breathable fabrics like cotton can enhance protection against direct sunlight and aid in cooling down. Incorporating hydrating fruits and vegetables such as grapes, cucumber, watermelon, water chestnut, muskmelon, mango, and sugarcane juice may also help combat the heat.

Crucially, the Ministry recommends avoiding outdoor activities during the peak heat hours, typically between 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm, when sunlight is most intense. It also suggests reducing or eliminating intake of alcohol, tea, coffee, and sugary carbonated drinks, as these can exacerbate fluid loss or trigger stomach cramps.

Most importantly, the Ministry cautioned against leaving children or pets in parked vehicles, even for brief periods, as the internal temperature can soar to perilous levels.
