New Delhi, April 21 (NationPress) The Union Health Minister JP Nadda stated on Monday that fatty liver is not only preventable but can also be reversed through the adoption of a health-conscious lifestyle and improved dietary choices.

He emphasized the significance of liver care, noting that the liver is among the most vital organs in the human body.

“It plays a crucial role in digestion, detoxification, and energy storage. If it isn't functioning properly, the whole body is impacted,” Nadda remarked during the ‘Liver Health Pledge Ceremony’ in the capital.

The Union Minister cautioned that fatty liver elevates the risk of severe health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and even cancer.

Nadda highlighted that minor adjustments in daily routines can significantly contribute to maintaining a healthy liver.

“Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged everyone to reduce oil usage in cooking by 10 percent. This simple action can aid in preventing non-communicable diseases and enhancing liver health,” he remarked.

He urged individuals to pledge to prioritize their liver health, schedule regular check-ups, and embrace a healthy lifestyle.

This year’s 'World Liver Day' theme, ‘Food is Medicine,’ underlined the close relationship between nutrition and liver health.

The Ministry of Health, in partnership with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), organized a dedicated liver health camp for officials and staff.

FSSAI also hosted an exhibition featuring millets and liver-friendly foods. The stall illustrated how millets, which are rich in fiber, antioxidants, and essential nutrients, promote bile production, mitigate inflammation, and enhance digestion.

Such benefits can help avert liver ailments, including Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD).

Other nutritious foods highlighted included cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower, leafy greens, fatty fish, nuts, citrus fruits, and healthy fats like olive oil — all recognized for their role in supporting liver health and detoxification.
