New Delhi, Feb 20 (NationPress) The recently introduced Rs 500 crore Technology Adoption Fund (TAF) by the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe), which operates under the Department of Space (DoS), is set to foster and enhance the growth of India's space startups along with their technological prowess.

The TAF aims to encourage the evolution of space technology within India while minimizing the country's reliance on foreign imports. It will channel investments into domestic research and development, promoting robust partnerships between government entities and the private sector, thereby positioning India as a trustworthy global participant in the space industry.

Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman of IN-SPACe, stated, “The fund will provide financial backing of up to 60 percent of the project cost for startups and MSMEs, and 40 percent for larger enterprises, with a cap of Rs 25 crores per project.”

Goenka elaborated that this fund is structured to assist “innovators in overcoming the gap between initial development and commercialization.”

“This support will empower businesses to refine their technologies, improve production methods, and satisfy market requirements both domestically and internationally. Our emphasis is on facilitating practical solutions that can be swiftly integrated into the space ecosystem,” he remarked.

The fund is also poised to facilitate the transformation of early-stage space technologies developed by Indian firms into commercially viable products. Through the TAF, IN-SPACe aspires to support a diverse range of outcomes, from the creation of new space products to the establishment of intellectual property that can propel future research and development.

This initiative will promote advanced space technologies and foster job creation alongside economic advancement.

By financing projects with the potential for commercial success, IN-SPACe is taking decisive actions to bolster India's standing in the global space arena. The TAF is accessible to all qualified non-government entities (NGEs) and companies ready to showcase the commercial viability of their innovations.

Furthermore, the fund will extend partial financial assistance to NGEs. Beyond monetary aid, the initiative will also offer technical support and mentoring opportunities, aiding firms in navigating challenges during the product development stages.

This all-encompassing support framework is designed to ensure that innovative concepts are not only safeguarded and enhanced but also efficiently brought to market.

Lt. Gen. AK Bhatt (retd.), Director General of the Indian Space Association (ISpA), welcomed this forward-thinking fund by IN-SPACe, calling it a significant stride towards enabling startups to expedite their journey from concept to commercialization.

He noted that India is currently “experiencing a wave of innovative startups creating revolutionary solutions for the space sector.”
