New Delhi, Dec 17 (NationPress) As the Indian job market wrapped up 2025 with a solid performance, the forecast for 2026 indicates a promising trajectory, with an anticipated creation of 1.28 crore jobs, according to a report released on Wednesday.
The analysis from foundit, a prominent jobs and talent platform, revealed that the job surge in 2025 stemmed from strong employer confidence, consistent recruitment across key industries, and the growing importance of Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities as essential talent centers.
Nevertheless, growth in the latter half of the year moderated to +4 percent over six months, suggesting a transition towards more strategic, productivity-driven hiring practices.
Looking ahead, 2026 is poised to be a year focused on skills-based hiring, as growth extends beyond metropolitan areas and bolsters India’s standing as a resilient and future-ready talent market, the report highlighted.
“The year 2025 was marked by significant expansion alongside disciplined hiring. We observed a decentralization of talent, with Tier-2 cities emerging as operational hubs for tech, BFSI, logistics, and retail sectors,” explained Anupama Bhimrajka, VP of Marketing at foundit.
“As we approach 2026, the demand for AI-ready skills, strategic leadership, and mid-career digital expertise will sustain momentum despite a more measured approach in certain sectors,” Bhimrajka noted.
The report further indicated that in 2026, demand will be notably robust for mid-to-senior talent in digital, AI, cloud, data, and cybersecurity, propelled by ongoing enterprise transformations.
Industries such as tech, BFSI, manufacturing, infrastructure, and renewable energy are expected to lead the hiring trend, while emerging sectors like fintech, health tech, and electric mobility will provide specialized opportunities.
Hiring is also anticipated to spread beyond metropolitan hubs as companies establish talent centers in Tier-2 cities to optimize costs and tap into broader talent pools.
Moreover, in 2026, Bengaluru and Hyderabad are expected to spearhead hiring, driven by advancements in tech, GCCs, AI, cloud, and semiconductor operations.
Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Kochi, and Tier-2 cities like Coimbatore, Jaipur, and Baroda are projected to experience steady growth, indicating a shift in India’s approach towards a decentralized, multi-city talent model.
