New Delhi, Nov 15 (NationPress) The media and entertainment sector in India is expected to exceed $100 billion by the year 2030, as announced by the government on Saturday.
This sector has rapidly evolved to become one of the fastest-growing industries in the country, driven by digital advancements, a demand from the youth, and a rise in creative entrepreneurship.
“Acknowledged by the government as a segment with considerable potential within the services sector, the media industry is anticipated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of around 7 percent, reaching approximately Rs 3,067 billion by 2027. The national projection envisions this ecosystem reaching $100 billion by 2030, marking a significant transition from being a content-consuming nation to becoming a global creator and exporter of intellectual property,” stated an official government report.
With its gross value-added share consistently increasing over the past decade, this sector plays a crucial role in value addition and job creation.
India offers a 40 to 60 percent cost advantage in animation and VFX services, backed by a substantial, skilled workforce.
“This competitive edge has attracted a consistent influx of international projects, establishing India as a favored destination for global post-production activities,” the report elaborated.
Moreover, narratives from India are forging emotional and cultural ties across various continents, with almost 25 percent of the total viewership for Indian OTT content coming from international audiences.
The government highlighted that the formal acknowledgment of the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) sector is a pivotal element behind this creative renaissance.
In the AVGC-XR domain, technology, storytelling, and innovation intersect, shaping the future of the nation’s media and entertainment expansion, according to the official statement.
“India’s AVGC-XR sector is entering a transformative growth phase characterized by innovation, skill enhancement, and policy alignment. The upcoming focus is on evolving the creative economy into a global powerhouse, fueled by indigenous talent, technological progress, and creative entrepreneurship,” the statement concluded.
