Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Oct 29 (NationPress) The inaugural state-level Centre of Excellence (CoE) in space technology, located in Karnataka, is poised to foster and accelerate innovation among startups in the space domain.
The CoE, known as the Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS), is partnering with SIA-India, a prominent space industry association, to enhance India’s space innovation landscape.
This facility in Bengaluru will implement targeted measures focused on capacity enhancement, research and development, and startup acceleration over a comprehensive five-year plan from 2025 to 2030.
Karnataka already boasts significant institutions including ISRO, IISc, DRDO, and various leading PSUs.
“This Centre of Excellence represents more than just an institution; it serves as a strategic core that will reinforce Karnataka’s dominance in the global space economy,” remarked Dr. Subba Rao Pavuluri, President of SIA-India.
The CoE will act as a transformative center specifically designed to incubate and accelerate space-tech startups, offering prototype funding aimed at turning ideas into market-ready solutions.
Moreover, it will enhance skill levels of professionals through short-term, industry-relevant programs and provide certification to students via advanced, long-term courses.
The CoE intends to disseminate peer-reviewed research in international publications and commercialize cutting-edge products and solutions encompassing satellite components, data analytics, and AI-driven tools.
This Centre will also forge numerous strategic alliances with both domestic and international entities to enable technology transfer, joint ventures, and collaborative missions.
“The initiative will nurture startups, bolster R&D in satellite manufacturing, launch systems, and downstream applications, and link innovators with ISRO and IN-SPACe resources for practical deployment,” stated Anil Prakash, Director General of SIA-India.
“Additionally, it introduces India’s inaugural State Space Innovation Index to assess policy readiness and investment climate. By establishing a model for public-private collaboration, this Centre sets Karnataka as the launchpad for India’s next wave of space enterprises, enhancing the state’s global stature in the space economy,” Prakash further elaborated.
The Centre will be spearheaded by D. S. Govindrajan, Board Member of SIA-India, who will guide its development and execution in close partnership with state and industry stakeholders.
