New Delhi, Dec 3 (NationPress) Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda engaged with Members of Parliament from various political parties to raise awareness about the TB-Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. He called for efforts to enhance community involvement in the fight against tuberculosis, recognized as the most contagious disease globally.
During an initial round of discussions with parliamentarians, especially focusing on those from Uttar Pradesh, Nadda emphasized the crucial leadership roles of MPs in realizing the goal of TB elimination.
The parliamentarians were briefed on the campaign's objectives, significant activities in progress, and their contributions to the initiative.
Nadda encouraged the MPs to closely monitor campaign activities in their constituencies, enhance awareness, diminish the stigma associated with the disease, and mobilize the community for active participation.
He also pointed out the positive strides the nation has made in addressing the TB burden.
According to Nadda, "India's TB incidence has dropped by 21 percent -- from 237 cases per lakh population in 2015 to 187 per lakh population in 2024. This rate is almost double the global decline of 12 percent, as reported by the World Health Organization's Global TB Report 2025."
"Furthermore, the mortality rate from TB has fallen from 28 per lakh population in 2015 to 21 per lakh population in 2024, showcasing substantial progress in reducing TB-related deaths," he added.
The MPs were made aware of several innovative measures implemented over the past decade, including the rapid adoption of new technologies such as AI-enabled hand-held chest X-ray machines and Truenat machines, more effective and shorter treatment protocols, and the decentralization of TB care through the network of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.
Nadda stressed that further outreach for TB screening services and awareness at the grassroots level is vital for the success of TB elimination initiatives, urging MPs to champion these efforts to transform it into a Jan Andolan.
