Over 36.16 Crore Ayushman Cards Issued Under PMJAY Initiative: Government

New Delhi, Dec 17 (NationPress) Approximately 36.16 crore Ayushman Cards have been issued to beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), according to a statement from the Union government on Tuesday.

“As indicated by the PMJAY dashboard, as of December 12, 36.16 crore Ayushman Cards have been issued for eligible beneficiaries. Among these, 29.87 crore cards have been allocated to individuals living in rural areas,” stated Prataprao Jadhav, the Union Minister of State (MoS) for Health and Family Welfare, in a written reply during the Rajya Sabha session today.

Initiated in 2018, PMJAY aims to provide financial security to underprivileged rural families and also recognizes occupational categories of urban workers’ families.

This flagship initiative “provides coverage of Rs 5,00,000 per family per year (on a family floater basis). The services include a wide array of procedures that encompass all treatment-related expenses, such as medications, supplies, diagnostic services, physician's fees, room charges, surgeon fees, OT, and ICU charges,” Jadhav elaborated.

Moreover, he highlighted the accomplishments under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), which is designed to establish the essential framework to support India's integrated digital health infrastructure.

“ABDM aims to enhance healthcare by making it more transparent, secure, inclusive, accessible, timely, and, most importantly, citizen-centric,” Jadhav remarked.

The ABDM consists of key registries, including the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), healthcare professional registry (HPR), health facility registry (HFR), and drug registry.

Under this scheme, “more than 71.16 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA) have been established as of December 10,” the MoS added, emphasizing that “approximately 45.99 crore health records have been linked with ABHA.”

“Around 3.54 lakh health facilities have been registered in the health facility registry (HFR), and approximately 5.37 lakh healthcare professionals have been documented in the healthcare professional registry (HPR),” he noted.

Jadhav also shared significant milestones achieved under the National Health Policy.

“The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) decreased from 103 per 100,000 live births in 2017-2019 to 97 per 100,000 live births in 2018-20 (against a target of 100 by 2020),” the MoS stated.

“The Infant Mortality Rate fell from 32 per 1,000 live births in 2018 to 28 per 1,000 live births in 2020 (against a target of 28 by 2019), and the Total Fertility Rate dropped from 2.2 in 2015-16 according to NFHS-4 to 2.0 in 2019-21 according to NFHS-5 (against a goal of 2.1 by 2025),” he added.

In a separate update, Anupriya Patel, the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, announced that over 5.46 crore children and 1.32 crore pregnant women have been vaccinated during all phases of Mission Indradhanush conducted thus far.

“Mission Indradhanush is a targeted vaccination campaign under the Universal Immunisation Programme, designed to vaccinate children and pregnant women who have been missed or dropped out of previous immunisations,” Patel stated in a written response to the Rajya Sabha today. She noted that 11 types of vaccines are provided under this programme.
