New Delhi, July 23 (NationPress) The Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO) announced on Wednesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's trip to the United Kingdom and the Maldives is set to invigorate Indian exports and foster regional stability in the Indian Ocean area.
FIEO President SC Ralhan indicated that this journey comes at a crucial time, as negotiations for a Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (FTA) approach their conclusion.
“We anticipate that top-level dialogues will encourage a greater consensus on trade facilitation strategies and help achieve our common goal of doubling bilateral trade by 2030.” Additionally, these visits highlight India’s escalating prominence as a significant contributor in the global economic landscape,” he stated.
PM Modi’s engagement in the UK is projected to inject renewed energy into the India–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), which encompasses trade, technology, innovation, defense, climate change, and other pivotal sectors.
Ralhan expressed optimism that the FTA will enhance exports across various Indian industries, including textiles, apparel, leather, gems and jewellery, pharmaceuticals, marine, and engineering goods. “The agreement is expected to remove tariffs on Indian garments and textiles, thereby boosting their competitiveness in the UK market,” he elaborated.
Furthermore, it may simplify regulatory approvals for Indian pharmaceutical products in the UK and create new opportunities for Indian IT, business services, and professional services firms.
Following this, PM Modi will head to the Maldives from July 25 to 26 as the guest of honor for its independence anniversary. He will engage in discussions with his Maldivian counterpart regarding the India–Maldives Joint Vision for a Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership, which includes infrastructure, tourism, fisheries, connectivity, and maritime security. This visit signifies India's dedication to the 'Neighbourhood First' policy and Vision MAHASAGAR’s maritime objectives, according to the FIEO president.
He emphasized that the Maldives is vital to the Indian Ocean region. Enhanced economic and maritime collaboration with the Maldives will facilitate mutual growth, enhance regional stability, and unlock new opportunities for Indian exporters, particularly SMEs linked to tourism and sustainable development, he noted.
On Wednesday, PM Modi embarked on a two-nation journey to the UK and Maldives, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations and expressing confidence that this visit will produce substantial outcomes.
