New Delhi, April 22 (NationPress) Emphasizing the critical issue of fire prevention and safety, the Health Ministry announced its unwavering commitment to securing the well-being of all patients—both outpatients and inpatients—along with their attendants and other individuals within healthcare facilities.
Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava underscored the necessity of implementing fire and electrical safety measures across all health facilities. She pointed out the urgent requirement for comprehensive fire safety planning, the training of healthcare personnel on hospital fire safety protocols, and the organization of regular mock drills focusing on fire preparedness and patient evacuation.
From April 21-25, the ministry has initiated Fire Safety Week in collaboration with all states/UTs and relevant central ministries and departments.
During the pledge-taking event, Srivastava emphasized the importance of cultivating a culture of safety within health facilities.
She called upon both public and private health establishments to engage fully in the week’s activities and to share successful strategies with the Ministry to improve fire safety standards across the nation’s healthcare facilities.
Participants committed to uphold the highest fire safety standards within their organizations, foster a culture of fire safety awareness, educate staff and stakeholders on fire prevention and emergency response, and prioritize the safety of every patient, colleague, and visitor while adopting innovative solutions to avert fire hazards.
A variety of activities are scheduled nationwide during Fire Safety Week to enhance awareness about the significance of preventing and mitigating fire hazards in all healthcare settings.
The ministry also hosted a two-day webinar series on fire and electrical safety in health facilities, addressing essential topics such as prevention, regulatory compliance, maintenance of fire detection and suppression systems, patient evacuation, and conducting mock drills to ensure engagement.
The webinar attracted over 3,000 participants from all states/UTs.
Recognizing the importance of active participation from the private health sector, the ministry has also encouraged the Indian Medical Association and relevant central ministries and departments to partake in the Fire Safety Week initiatives.
