Chennai, March 15 (NationPress) Union Minister for Electronics & IT Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Saturday the establishment of two significant Electronics Manufacturing Clusters in Tamil Nadu.
With a sanctioned investment of ₹1,112 crore, these clusters will be located in Pillai Pakkam and Manallur.
This initiative is designed to bolster India’s stature in the global Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) domain.
The declaration was made during the launch of Zetwerk Electronics' new manufacturing site in Chennai.
Covering an area of 15 acres, this facility is expected to significantly enhance Tamil Nadu’s electronics manufacturing sector and aid India in reaching its goal of a $500 billion ESDM market, as stated by Minister Vaishnaw.
The Union Minister also pointed out that Tamil Nadu has established itself as a crucial center for electronics manufacturing, aided by increased government backing and a railway budget surpassing ₹6,000 crore.
“India’s electronics manufacturing sector is expanding swiftly. Thanks to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are positioning India as a global manufacturing hub. Tamil Nadu is a primary beneficiary of this expansion,” he remarked.
According to Tamil Nadu's Industries Minister, Dr T.R.B. Rajaa, the state is responsible for 36 percent of India’s electronics exports.
He expressed optimism that such investments will enable the state to reach its objective of $100 billion in annual electronics exports.
The new facility in Chennai will specialize in producing control boards for home appliances and IT hardware.
It features advanced production technologies, including Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) lines, Manual Insertion (MI) lines, and stringent testing protocols.
Once fully operational, the facility is anticipated to employ approximately 1,200 skilled workers, as per a statement.
Zetwerk CEO & Co-founder Amrit Acharya described the new factory as a significant move toward establishing India as a global manufacturing leader.
“This facility will boost India's high-value electronics manufacturing capabilities and contribute to international supply chains,” he noted.
“We are dedicated to innovation, sustainability, and workforce enhancement,” Acharya added.
